Lipoma Treatment

We provide safe and effective treatment for lipoma using modern surgical techniques. Our focus is complete removal, minimal scarring, quick recovery, and prevention of recurrence.

Our procedures are performed under local anesthesia and usually do not require hospital admission. The surgery is simple, safe, and patients can return home the same day. We ensure proper cosmetic closure to minimize visible scars.

What is a Lipoma?

A lipoma is a soft, slow-growing, non-cancerous lump made up of fat tissue. It develops just under the skin and is usually painless.

Lipomas are commonly found on the neck, shoulders, back, arms, thighs, or abdomen. They feel soft to touch and can be easily moved under the skin. In most cases, they are harmless and grow slowly over time.

Causes and Risk Factors

  • Causes: The exact cause is unknown, but they are often inherited (genetic), and sometimes linked to conditions like familial multiple lipomatosis
  • Risk Factors: Most common in adults aged 40-60, but can occur at any age. Potential factors contributing to development include obesity, high cholesterol, and diabetes, according to some sources

Symptoms of Lipoma

  • Soft, movable lump under the skin
  • Slow-growing swelling
  • Usually painless
  • Mild discomfort if pressing on nerves
  • Cosmetic concern if large

Diagnosis is usually based on

  • Physical examination
  • Ultrasound (if needed)
  • MRI or CT scan (for large or deep lipomas)
  • Biopsy (rarely, if diagnosis is uncertain)

Treatment

Small and painless lipomas may not require treatment. However,
removal is advised if symptomatic or cosmetically concerning.
1. Surgical Excision (Definitive Treatment)
Benefits:
  • Permanent solution
  • Low recurrence rate
  • Minimal scarring
  • Day-care procedure
  • Quick recovery
2.Liposuction (Selected Cases)
  • Suitable for larger lipomas
  • Smaller incision
  • Faster cosmetic recovery

Recovery After Lipoma Removal

  • Same-day discharge
  • Mild swelling or discomfort for few days
  • Stitches removal in 7–10 days (if required)
  • Resume normal activities quickly
